About us

Background

WorkWell West is one of 15 pilot areas launched by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and the Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC) to help around 60,000 long term sick or Disabled people access local support services to help them start, stay or succeed in work. The main focus of the programme is to provide early intervention and support, helping people to address any health-related barriers they are currently facing and to provide a tailored plan to meet their personal goals. WorkWell West also works with local employers to offer advice and support for the workplace when it’s needed.

WorkWell West covers the Integrated Care Board area for Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire and it started taking referrals in October 2024.

Funding

Funding for the service is from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). DWP announced funding of £64million across all pilot areas to help provide support for people struggling to stay in work, find work or return to work due to a health condition or disability.

Partners

WorkWell West is a partnership programme led by Bristol City Council and working on behalf of North Somerset and South Gloucestershire councils. It is supported by Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire Integrated Care Board and the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority, the Department of Work and Pensions and the Department for Health and Social Care.
